With his can-do attitude, Joe is focused on ensuring that Clarksville Furniture and Flooring remains a vital part of the Clarksville community for another 100 years. He works hand-in-hand with the entire staff, coordinates with vendors to offer state-of-the art products and integrates modern tools that will enhance our customers’ experience, all while maintaining the home-town hospitality feel for which we are known.
He and his wife Michelle enjoy spending time at the lake with their six children. Joe is also a car enthusiast and can be found working on classic cars in his free time.
In 1922, Franz Julius Liipfert, who had been building cabinets for Randolph-Macon College in Boydton, VA, moved to Clarksville and started making furniture. His business was incorporated in 1926 and evolved into Clarksville Furniture & Flooring.
Many people in our community know Larry Kindley, Jr., who owned the business for 41 years. One day in 2021, Joe and Michelle Mitchell came into Clarksville Furniture & Flooring and placed a special order for outdoor furniture. Joe told Larry how much he loved Clarksville and that he planned to retire here but could never sit still in retirement.
Larry half-jokingly said that if Joe was interested in buying the store, he could make an offer. After he left, Joe called Larry and they got to talking. One thing led to another and Joe eventually purchased Clarksville Furniture & Flooring from Larry in 2022.
